The festival could not have left more of an impact on the â€Å"hippie† generation anymore than it did those three days of music and peace. The generation of the time wanted nothing more than what they got out of Woodstock. Most of the fans present expressed how they felt about the war in riots and violence. â€Å"Woodstock Ventures retained its exclusive rights, but the memory of Woodstock Nation belongs to the world; it is irrevocably imbedded in American culture† (Cooke 179). Not only was the war an influence, but the gathering itself influenced the historical outcome. â€Å"The most common feeling among all parties-producers, musicians, audience, town, and nation-was the sense of history in the making. It was the largest group of people ever gathered, and the greatest roster of musicians ever assembled, and it became the defining moment of a generation† (Cooke 178). At the time, teens and young adults were looking for ways to rebel against their religious and strict parents, but in a way that would affect the world in a positive way. Woodstock was, in many ways, a symbolic high point for the 1960s generation, proving that peace and love were possible in the world, if only for a moment† (Berg 863). The war in Vietnam was a huge event that was taking place at the time of Woodstock. Many of the fans that were present, were there to express how the felt about the war. â€Å"The musicians and fans expressed support for social justice and intense opposition to the Vietnam War† (Darity 120). The festival was a way for people to gather and express similar opinions and accept each other.The importance of Woodstock has left a lasting effect on many people from then until now. â€Å"Although in the early 1970s many experts predicted the end of the ‘hippie’ movement, the spirit of Woodstock has both disappeared from the American cultural scene† (Darity 120). The event showed America that as a group, people can bond peacefully and appropriately. â€Å"It wasn’t just the audience of hippies who bonded together in the face of disaster. Community and nation also rushed to their aid. The Red Cross, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts all donated food and supplies to the starving hoards.Even local townspeople pardoned the havoc wrought upon their town and made sandwiches for the infiltrators† (Cooke 178). The festival included many artist of the century that weren’t famous at the time, but now can be found in the Rock Hall of Fame. Some of the artists that were present at the festival were, Joan Baez, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the Grateful Dead, Arlo Guthrie, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Ravi Shankar, Sly and the Family Stone, and The Who.The music artists from Woodstock not only left an impact on the fans that attended the event, but effects people from this century and earlier too. â€Å"During the 1990s a second generation of musicians and fans maintained the Woodstock spirit. † â€Å"Since 2002, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival have occurred every June in Mancheste r, Tennessee† (Darity 120). The music of Woodstock is still played on radios in today’s century and will continue to live on. All in all, Woodstock will always be remembered as those â€Å"three days of peace and music. To get a source of livelihood, these immigrants engage in illicit trades such prostitution, drug peddling, and robbery. This leaves the country’s security in a fix since they cannot easily apprehend the culprits as they are not even in the country’s databases. Trade on drugs is a menace in the country accounting for the rise of crime in a mummer of cities. There is a pattern showing of wealth transferring from poorer nations to the richer nations of the globe and the information technology revolution is speeding this cycle up. With population growth reaching new heights new concerns for increasing urban growth has emerged. Planning for transportation, environment protection, or management of water and other resources are needed. Unregulated markets forces will hurt individuals and â€Å"politics as usual† will not mandate viable growth patterns or protect the air, water and natural beauty of our country. Planning and growth depends on public support and market forces. In order for plans to be effective they must show he same interests and values of major groups within the community. Even with the fear of the government, something that is generally accepted hampers a lot of effective planning. But it is clear that for any planning to work there must a consensus between â€Å"planners, community leaders, and the popularly elected officials who must bear the responsibility for implementing the plans† (Magleby, O’Brien, Light, Peltason Cronin, 2006, p. 649). This planning for our country, communities and societies along with its citizens has given the United States the status of world power. But controversy has erupted from the resent war with Iraq that questions our authority. I’ve heard many individual claims that America is expanding its empire, rather than fighting for freedom. Our rise to a world power has come because of our industry, colleges and universities, multiple government institutions, military strengths. This along with our innovations in science, technology and medicine catapulted us into our status. Development of such things as television and jet airliners gave America the edge it needed to jump to the top of the ladder. They have also helped to spread our ideologies of democracy and westernization. It has created globalization and keeps it going. Our commerce and business growth has only helped with this globalization. Companies, such as IBM and General Motors have given the national government firm grounds in business. Our national government promotes â€Å"a prosperous economy through its monetary and fiscal policies† (Magleby, O’Brien, Light, Peltason, Cronin, 2006, p. 437). The Department of Commerce has been at the center of the government’s efforts to promote economic growth and encourage businesses to do research and new development. These companies are at the heart of this economic growth plan. But more recently new development has been needed to keep these companies afloat as technology and innovation continues to climb new heights. Turning outdated companies into the companies of the future. The introduction of the electronic superhighway mandates companies to use e-commerce and if they can’t they might get left behind. The internet has given us a faster way for just about everything. It has even influenced society, culture and lifestyles. The Progressive Era began in United States during the mid 1890’s and continued through World War I. It was a time when individuals were beginning to have concerns with the state of society. It also brought about a belief in human compassion and how new innovations along with scientific investigation could somehow show what the problem was with ways of solving the problems. This reformation shows even in today’s time. Our social construct has great bearing on our national government. Take for example the debate on same-sex marriages. Our government has made laws that pertain to this issue, but some in society believe government has gone too far. But the core issue at stake, that I believe, has something to do with insurance. Philosophy of Education There comes a definite time in the life of every individual when a clear and conscious comprehension of identity must be established. A person must ask himself who he is, what his personal strengths are, and what path he wishes to pursue in order to shape his future and procure his dreams. I recently found myself at such a crossroads, and I faced the decision with much ambivalence. I was influenced by my high school peers and instructors to do something â€Å"incredible† with my promising life – to pursue medical school or law school. I, however, failed to see the appeal in either and opted instead for my own variation on an incredible future. I chose to pursue not only a career, but a cause and personal goal as well. After much deliberation, I decided that teaching high school English was the only endeavor that promised to reward me with the satisfaction for which I longed. I realized that I could not only express my own passion for literature, but that I cou ld also hopefully instill that same passion into the hearts of students. Many have since criticized my dreams and my aspirations as mediocre, but I argue that every man, woman, and child is a product of at least one exemplary educator. Education, in one form or another, shapes the lives of everyone on a daily basis. Educators, to me, are the unsung heroes of modern culture. I realize, of course, that not everyone is called to teach. I feel that only those with a true passion and love of knowledge should even consider the profession and way of life. In terms of the teacher that I will be, I hope to mirror a number of influences from my own education. I’ve always admired teachers who take time to personalize their classrooms – teac... ...n, if met with the opportunity, I would love to join one or more in order to gain valuable insight from fellow educators. The American statesman Edward Everett once stated that, â€Å"Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army.† Indeed, the educated individual is empirically liberated. Knowledge is power, and he who has it, powerful. This rousing sentiment establishes teacher as freedom fighter, aiding daily in the demolition of ignorance’s bondage. It is my solemn vow to join these celebrated ranks in the crusade for knowledge. Many small children dream of becoming astronauts and firefighters because of their formidable accomplishments and heroic statures. Similarly, I will be a teacher; I will work with diligence, fervor, and compassion to change the lives and thought processes of students, for I can think of no nobler contribution.
